Hand fight into a single

Ties / Solo mat / Build

Inside position, a level change off the tie, and the single leg entry, chained.

Solo study. Solo rehearsal of a shape a coach has already shown you. No partner, no resistance, no finish against anyone. Not coach-verified.

Why it matters

Shots taken from open space get sprawled on. Shots taken off a tie, from inside position with the level change hidden under the hand fight, are the ones that land. This chain is the tie and the shot in one piece.

Hand fighting

  1. Stance. Keep the stance while the hands work; the feet do not stop.
  2. Reach inside. One hand reaches for an inside position while the other stays home.
  3. Swap hands. Swap: the other hand reaches while the first comes back.
  4. Clear and reset. Clear both hands down and away, then return to the stance.

Watch for: Both hands reaching at once leaves the head unprotected. One works, one stays home.

Level change

  1. Stance. Start in your wrestling stance.
  2. Bend the legs. Lower your level before attempting penetration.
  3. Lower base. Keep your head up as your knees and hips flex.
  4. Recover. Recover to your stance without straightening rigidly.

Watch for: Lowering the head alone is not a level change.

Single leg entry • solo

  1. Stance. Start in the stance with the head up.
  2. Change level. Change level with the legs; the chest stays over the lead knee.
  3. Step in, hands low. Step in deep with the head to the outside and both hands where a knee would be.
  4. Rise with the leg. Come up with the hands together at hip height and the chest up. No opponent is shown.

Watch for: Head to the outside, hands to the knee. Reaching with the hands before the step lands puts the head down.

Three common faults

Stopping the hands to shoot
The hand fighting ends, a pause, then the level change. The level change happens inside the rhythm.
Level change too early
The hips drop before the inside position is there. Inside hand first.
Head inside on the step
The single's first fault, again. Head outside.

In the room

  1. Win the inside hand, then change level off it.
  2. The step lands with the head outside.
  3. Up with the hands together. No opponent is shown.
